Vista (RTM) impressions? Can't Post

Has anyone tried the final RTM versions of Vista?

I've been running an OEM version of Ultimate for 3 days now, and I have to say I'm pleased with the final product. It's a shame though that hardware manufactures and software developers still have yet to catch up.

Gripes:
-Windows complains that the default Realtek driver is incompatible. (Why the heck is it included then?) Good thing Auzentech finally has a beta Vista driver available.
-Nvidia's beta video drivers are buggy as hell and very incomplete. Lots of functions missing, such as overscan correction; settings aren't sticking.
-various configuration options relocated, no pointers for experienced users as to the new location;

Praises:
-installing is very quick; don't need to load RAID drivers
-Vista comes preloaded with plenty of official drivers. I was suprised that even my TV tuner had pre-loaded drivers.
-preview windows by mousing over the task the bar
-Task Manager now provides a description to go along with most processes in the list. Very helpful in identifying the legitamacy of each process.
-Windows messenger (MSN Messenger?) not installed by default.

Yeah overall it is a little better than I expected. I had played around with the beta and RC clients, and the final release seems to be pretty stable. I had the same problem you did with nVidia drivers, though. And, my printer doesn't support Vista (and apparently never will) so I'm kinda stuck there.

I still think that it's a bloody resource hog (much worse than XP), my mom's laptop (X2 with 1GB RAM) should be able to run it no problem, but still it takes over 5 minutes to start up, and a good minute to load Microsoft Word. On my XP rig, it takes less than half a second to open the control panel and list the items. It takes about 15 seconds on Vista.

Overall I think Microsoft could have done a better job by cutting down on the sheer number of bells and whistles, and focused more on security and ease of use.

Does the annoying User Account Control thingy annoy you as much as it annoys me? Now you have two bloody dialog boxes if you want to delete something or move something... or open a program! If you disable it, it gives you a popup saying it's disabled. If you disable the Security Center, it pops up anyways telling you to turn it back on!

Yes, I can do without the user account control. It's a good idea, but poorly executed, in my opinion.

I am the only user on my PC's. So I do find it a bit annoying that when I'm logged in (as administrator), it still tells me that an administrator needs to approve the action. It's also silly that it's sometimes allowing me to move files, but not rename the containing folder.

I wasn't able to get Auzentech's Vista driver to work. The setup program tells me I don't have a sound card installed. However, a search on Google yielded instructions on forcing their XP drivers to work. There seemed to be some glitches, where some modes didn't seem to be functioning. If I had to guess, that's likely do to the removal of DirectSound in Vista.

Have you tried the ReadyBoost feature? I have a 512MB Kingston USB drive plugged in with ReadyBoost activated on it, and I'm not noticing in difference in performance.

I haven't had any lag in startup time compaired to XP.
