P4P800S Motherboard Can't Post

I just purchased an ASUS P4P800S motherboard from ebay for 33.00. Has anyone had any experiece with this motherboard?

I now have an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe which was a 250.00 board a couple of years ago and the price still holds firm for at least 150.00 even used on ebay. If the P4P800S is half the board mine is then it should be a great motherboard.

I plan to install my Prescott 3.0E CPU and make it a media center PC. I am supposed to get my motherboard on 9/21 and my ATI X850XT video card back from ATI on 9/25. I just have to make the decision to buy the Mozart Media Center Case made my Thermaltake to finish it off media center style. Otherwise, I will use my old Coolermaster Case that has been modded out with Blue Led 120mm fans. I know the airflow will be much better in my old case but it wont fit in the entertainment center, it will have to sit next to it.

I was just curious to know if anyone has used this board before.

Yeah, it's not bad. I didn't have any issues, but I know of one guy who got one DOA. Not a big deal though.

Thanks for the input. I expect this motherboard tomorrow. Also, ATI has shipped my ATI X850XT card to me as of today and it said it was shipped standard overnight. I think maybe I will get it tomorrow, I hope. I will have to see if I can track this.

You cant ask for more, my motherboard, video card hopefully on the same day and a day off to boot. My ATI9600XT will go in this board and my 850XT will go back in my main system, ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe motherboard.

I will post the outcome as soon as I get it together.

I recieved my motherboard today and I will install and test soon. I will post again when I get to that point.

I was surprised to see that this motherboard is brand new. The I/O plate has never been removed from the packaging and the cables are still banded.

Very nice...

Re: [azzey] P4P800S Motherboard [In reply to] Can't Post

Ok, help me out here guys. I have a second rig that I have put together using this motherboard and all seems well until I boot up and at the logo screen where the blue light goes across the screen it seems to always freeze up on the second pass about half way.

I was having problems with the BIOS saving the settings but I robbed another motherboard of its CMOS battery and it seems to stick now. I have the boot device settings set to floppy now in hopes to be able to boot from a Windows XP boot disk that I created on my main PC. I downloaded Afudos and the latest BIOS rev and have it all on the boot floppy but when it boots the light on the floppy drive seems to light up but it skips the floppy boot and goes back to the logo screen and freezes up again. I think that maybe I may need a newer floppy since it came from an old HP. My new floppy is in my main rig that I really didnt want to take out since everything is harmoneously operating with no problems.

I have tried about everything with this board with the exeception of flashing the BIOS (in which I will do even if I have to remove the floppy from my main rig Unsure).

Does anyone have any input from similar experiences?

Try resetting the CMOS too if you haven't already. Changing batteries may not have erased the memory.

Make sure that all your cables are secure.

Re: [azzey] P4P800S Motherboard [In reply to] Can't Post

I know I reset CMOS before replacing the battery but Im not positive afterwards. I will go back and try that again to make sure. I will also recheck all of the cables too. I have already checked and rechecked the cables but it always seems to pay to check one more time anyway.

I think the BIOS rev is 1001 and theres a 1004 or 1006 rev that I have copied on the floppy. I think I will definitely have to get another more up to date floppy to read the Windows XP boot disk.

I will be very busy the next few days but I will let you know if and what worked if it does. If it dont you can bet on hearing that too since I am reaching the end of my rope with this situation.

Thanks for the input...

Re: [azzey] P4P800S Motherboard [In reply to] Can't Post

1st off I want to say that I went to google and typed in "P4P800S motherboard freeze at bootup" and the very 1st selection was my post here. I think you have your site set up very well for new traffic.. Wink

I have replaced the IDE cables, installed a floppy drive and created a boot disk and added afudos and the BIOS rev 1006 which is the latest posted on ASUS's website. I set boot priority to floppy 1st and when it boots it looks and sounds as if it is going to boot from the floppy and I get "I/O read error, replace disk and strike any key" error message. I cant seem to get into the boot disk to update the BIOS.

I have installed a new OEM PATA 250G samsung hard drive, I did a quick format and installed Media
center 2005 and when it boots I get the same thing.... freeze at boot screen. I get to the Windows XP logo screen and the blue light makes the 2nd pass half way and it completely stops perfectly in the middle of the led bar.

I should be able to boot from a floppy disk. Something is wrong here and maybe someone can give a tip.

I have also noticed that sometimes when I am in the BIOS it seems to hang when I try to switch between menus or change settings. I would have to strike a miscellaneous key on the board to get it to work when I select the correct key. I have noticed this on two occasions and this last time I reset CMOS and everything seemed to work fine until I get to the boot screen.

Everything seems to be stemming from the motherboard from my opinion as being the problem. I had bought this board on Ebay from an individual and when I received it from UPS it was taped up with ASUS tape as if it was sent directly to me from ASUS. I am wondering if the person I bought it from had same issues and sent it back to ASUS for repairs and he never opened it when he got it back from them because he probably bought another motherboard and had no desire to mess with it again.

I have searched the internet for reslolutions and I find several issues but nothing exactly like this one so I dont really find a helpful answer.

I hate to throw away good money on what seems to be possibly a great motherboard but if I dont find a resolution soon that is exactly what will happen...

Re: [hotrod] P4P800S Motherboard [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I have to admit that a Celeron processor saved me on this issue. I had an Intel Celeron 2.0G CPU from my dads upgrade and I decided to install it and see if this machine simply didnt like the prescott CPU. Believe it or not it booted perfectly fine. I installed all of the updates, flashed the BIOS from rev 1001 to rev 1007 and reinstalled the Prescott 3.0G CPU and bamo, it was up and running perfectly fine.

Guess what the next update from microsoft was....

Compatability issue fix with Prescott CPU that can sometimes cause system hang.

Nice timing for that one. I have now been running this system for almost 24 hours with no problems. Tomorrow I install my new Logitech 5300e 5.1 THX speaker system. It boasts a full 280 watts compared to my really impressive creative 6600 audigy 6.1 120W speaker system. I cant wait to rock a few tunes and watch a movie with the surround sound on my sofa.... Wink

Thanks for the help here guys and it looks like this case is now closed. This should be a handy tip for others that will run across this article in the future.

I'm glad you hear you solved it!

You'd think they would include Prescott support right off the bat... oh well!
