NEED HELP!!!! Can't Post

Hey Guys

This is my first post (i think) and thought it was the most appropriate place to put it but I NEED help.

Ive got a digital camera and am having problems getting the pics off. When I plug my lead into the USB port, a message pops up saying that the device cannot be recognised and that I have to click the button to find out how to recognise it. O0f course, being Windows its not very helpful as it just says replace the camera.

I recently bought a memory card reader so that I can get the pics off my memory card as I need the memory card to take more pics in about a week and want the pics on there now. I plugged the memory card reader into the USB port and guess what...The same message came up again :(

Ive tried everything I can think of. Ive downloaded USB drivers, disabled USB things and then enabled them, nothing has worked.

The only thing that I can think of is that when I go into the device manager, the USB Controller is not working and needs a driver. I am pretty sure that that is the reason that it isnt working but I cant do anything about it. Ive tried updating the driver but it cant find the driver update, Ive tried searching the Motherboard CD and it cant find it. I cant even find it on the ASUS website :S

Can anyone help me to get my memory card reader or camera working?

Thanks guys

I know that a lot of motherboards driver CDs would prompt you that you would have to get your usb updates from Microsofts updates. Are you sure you dont have any updates hidden?

Your copy of windows has to be valid to get these updates as well so if Microsofts website for some reason doesnt recognize your copy of windows to be valid then that could explain the reason for you not getting these updates.

It definitely sounds like a driver issue...Crazy

Do any of your other USB devices work okay? It sounds like a driver issue, but XP usually detects everything just fine for me. SP1 or SP2?

Aloha,
just a thought here. I recently had some similar retarded issues with my really nice digital camera I brought home from my recent trip back home to Hawaii. I bought the camera over there, and used it with some of my families computers at work to download the images and burn cd's (ended up bringing 4 cd's worth of pics back here to the mainland). It's a Pentax Optio A10, real nice 8 megapixel camera. So anyway, when I got back home to Oregon, and interfaced the camera with my computer, it would lock the whole system up, requiring me to hard reset the computer. So, in talking with a tech on the phone from pentax it was suggested that I try out different USB ports. As in, the ones on the back of the computer, directly into the mobo, not the front panel ones. And wouldn't you know, the back ports behaved just fine. It was because I was interfacing the camera with the front panel USB ports. So my advice to you, plug the camera USB interface cable into the USB ports on the BACK of the puter. See if that helps.
